Design

Tamapatum is a tradition boat from the day of fishing under sail.
When the design adage was ‘a stable platform from which to work at sea‘. It’s not a copy of any specific type but the rig especially, is recognizable as from the north sea coast of England.
These typically moderate displacement craft transpose well to ferro cement as the original timber construction is more or less the same weight as modern ferro cement. The rig is also of moderate proportions for lease of handling by a small crew.

Handling
In thirty years of sailing, 60,000 nautical miles and more than 60 countries she has proved to be a sea worthy and sea kindly boat .

A storm is more than extreme weather and sea conditions. It must include breaking something or losing control to call the experience a storm. Tamapatum with the mainsail and topsail stowed has a combination of small easily handled sails that have enabled us to be in control of every event the weather has thrown at us.

In the right conditions she has excelled herself, her best days run, over 200 nautical miles in twenty four hours. She has on three occaisions achieved more than 500 nautical miles in seventy two hours. Average speed sailing in the ocean would be approximately 5 knots.

Originally fitted out with S E Queensland hoop pine, silky oak and brush Box. No plywood, all solid construction. Good condition, painted and varnished 2008.

Mechanics:

Engine: Perkins L 4.270 63 HP continuous at 1800 rpm circa 1950 runs well. Does 6 knots at 1000 rpm in calm weather. Fuel consumption better than four liters per hour .

Electrics:
