THE Australian Wooden Boat Festival attracted thousands of visitors to Hobart over the weekend for the states gala maritime event.

Event organisers announced that over 100,000 people are expected to pass through the gates by the end of Monday night.
Raffle ticket sales indicated that as much as 40 per cent of the crowd had come from interstate or overseas.
"There are people from countries all over the world that have come out specifically for the Wooden Boat Festival," Event Manager Mr McGuire said.
"We had a strong Japanese contingent, a lot from the UK and the US, Indonesia has got a good contingent -- the diversity is quite amazing. They know about the festival and they want to be part of it."
Businesses and Stallholders were ecstatic with the turnout at the event, stating the crowds were excellent.
Despite the large number of interstate visitors there were also a lot more locals at the festival due the generous free entry this year
Celebrities also graced the Australian Wooden Boat Festival yesterday with sailor Jessica Watson and entrepreneur and philanthropist Dick Smith enjoying a coffee together.
Jessica Watson said that for boaties, Hobart was the best place in the world to be this weekend.
