The Federal Government has installed reduced catch limits on Eastern Tuna and Billfish species that will be more environmentally sustainable..
The Ulladulla Fisherman's Co-Operative says new catch quotas will mean businesses may have to buy a second licence to stay afloat.
Mike Kelly, the Parliamentary Secretary for Fisheries and Member for Eden-Monaro, stats that the limits were set above recommended rates.
"What we've just seen is the setting of quotas that are based on what should be environmentally sustainable," he said.
"And I know that the quotas that were set, were set certainly above the current indicated rates of effort by our fishers.
"So they should be able to operate within those."
"This obviously new regime that's coming into place will probably have some time to work through, and I know AFMA will engage directly with the fishers in that process," he said.
"We're in a process now where we're negotiating internationally, trying to manage these Eastern Tuna and Billfish resources effectively."
