Champion Water Skier Fatal Fall
A man died at Pitt Town yesterday following a water ski boat accident on the Hawkesbury River.
Stephen Robertson, 37, was being towed with another skier at about 2.45pm on Thursday when he fell into the water.
He was pulled from the water by passengers on the boat and given CPR, a local newspaper said, but couldn't be revived.
An Ambulance Service of NSW spokeswoman said Mr Robertson was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police from Hawkesbury Local Area Command, with the assistance of officers from Marine Area Command, are investigating the incident. Robertson won the 1999 and 2001 World Waterski Racing Championships in Spain and the United States. According to the newspaper, he was training for the 112-kilometer (70-mile) Bridge to Bridge Water Ski Classic that is due to be held on the river over the coming weekend.
