A Diving expedition set to be the first to explore the recently sunken HMAS Canberra off Ocean Grove had there plans cut short when there boat capsized on the weekend.
Authorities have already started an investigation into the cause of the incident which occurred around 11.20am on Saturday.
Witnesses claim that the seas were not rough, and the incident was mostly a boating error or a freak wave.
The skipper and the owner of 7m
aluminium sports cruiser was anchored at the time, supported by an experienced crew with more than 20 years diving.
"A wave tipped it (the boat) over," the Skipper said. "It was a bit choppy but it wasn't really rough."
The Coast Guard will undertake a full investigation into what happened.
A nearby charter boat rescued the men from the water and kept them on the aboard until all the divers had finished there dive and taken to Portsea.
The local Coast Guard were quick to arrive after the accident and towed the capsized vessel to Queenscliff Harbour.
A large crowd had gathered to watch the coast guard and dockmasters effort to lift the boat out of the water.
