No Roads – Get the boat to work!
St George, Queensland -The Balonne River continues to rise to the point where people are now using boats to get to work.
The Balonne River is still rising and is close to 13 metres.
The
Bureau of Meteorology
(BOM) predicts it will hit its peak if 14 metres over the weekend.
This morning, more than 20 people were waiting to take the
SES
boat across the river to start picking table grapes and irrigating cotton.
Farmer George Saessler says his grapes have not been affected by the flooding but it has been a challenge for people to get to work.
"They get wet feet sometimes but they find it exciting, I think, the boat ride," he said.
