A fishing trip ended in tragedy when there boat capsized just off Tuross Head, near Moruya, on New South Wales, South Coast.
Four people were aboard the boat at the time, Unfortunately two men in there 70’s died after they became trapped under the hull of the
6m runabout when it overturned around 8 o’clock on Saturday morning.
One of the men was a local and a member of the Tuross Fishing Club.
The
skipper of the vessel and the daughter of one deceased were rescued by a local fishing charter operator.
Luckily two doctors happened to be on board the charter boat, both were treated before being taken to Moruya Hospital.
An air and sea search operation was launched to find the two bodies, Police found the deceased around 1:30pm that day.
Tuross Fishing Club president Fred Vezis said the tragedy had struck at the heart of the community.
"It's very unforgiving out there," he said.
The Coastal Patrol vessel ‘Strathmore’ managed to right the boat and tow it to Narooma.
Water Police collected the boat later that night.
A nearby fisherman who didn’t see the incident but was asked to keep an eye out for debris said, the conditions "weren't too bad", and that they had been much worse the pervious day.
"It's devastating," he said.
A report is being prepared for the coroner.
